ICBC Counselling in Vancouver: Direct Billing, What to Expect, and How to Start

If you’ve been in a car accident, the impact is often more than physical.

You may notice trouble sleeping, feeling on edge, anxiety while driving, or a sense that your body and mind have not fully settled since the accident.

ICBC counselling can support your emotional recovery, not just your physical injuries.

What You Need to Get Started

Starting ICBC counselling is simpler than most people expect.

  • Your ICBC claim number
  • Your PHN (Care Card number)

Once you have these, the rest is handled through direct billing. You don’t need to manage paperwork or payments on your own.

Do I Need a Doctor Referral?

No referral is needed. You can start counselling directly once you have your ICBC claim number. If you’re unsure how counselling fits your situation, you can learn more about ICBC counselling here .

How Many Sessions Are Covered?

ICBC typically pre-approves 12 counselling sessions within the first 12 weeks after your accident.

If more support is needed, a treatment plan can be submitted to request additional sessions.

Direct Billing (No Upfront Payment)

ICBC counselling is direct billed, which means:

  • No upfront payment
  • No reimbursement paperwork
  • No added financial stress during recovery

In my practice, there is no top-up fee for ICBC sessions. If you are also navigating stress, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm after the accident, you can explore support for stress and anxiety here .

What We Work On in ICBC Counselling

Recovery after a car accident is not just about your body—it can affect how you feel, how you relate to others, and how you move through daily life.

I use a biopsychosocial approach, which means we look at your recovery as a whole: your body, your emotional experience, and your support system.

  • Body recovery: adjusting to pain, tension, sleep changes, and reconnecting with a sense of safety in your body
  • Psychological recovery: anxiety, fear, overwhelm, and processing the emotional impact of the accident
  • Interpersonal support: navigating stress in relationships, feeling understood, and rebuilding support around you

Many clients notice their confidence changes after an accident—whether it’s driving, working, or simply feeling like themselves again.

Our work focuses on helping you gradually rebuild a sense of confidence, stability, and trust in your body and your life. If relationship stress has also been impacted, you can learn more about relationship counselling here .

Recovery can take time. You don’t have to rush through it—we can move at a pace that feels steady and supportive.
