I’m Jenny Hsuan Fang Hsu, a Registered Clinical Counselor based in Vancouver, BC, offering counseling in both English and Mandarin. I live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples, including the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stóō, and səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) nations. I’m a queer-identified, middle-class Asian immigrant woman born in Taiwan. I moved to Canada at 13 and proudly identify as a Taiwanese Canadian.
In 2014, a motorcycle accident completely changed my life, and it set me on a healing journey that I’m still on. I’ve lived with chronic pain, high-functioning depression, and a concussion. After several tries to get back to work, I pursued further education and earned a post-degree diploma in Psycho-social Rehabilitation. It led me to this work: supporting others in challenging situations.
My struggles have shaped who I am as a therapist, and they push me to help others get through their challenges. I’m passionate about guiding people toward finding themselves, working through hard times, and building strong, healthy relationships. I bring my identity, lived experiences, and values into my practice, seeing myself as a wounded healer.
As a woman of colour and part of the LGBTQ2S+ community, I value inclusion and diversity, and social justice plays a big part in my practice. Advocacy is central to my mission because I believe it’s where meaningful change starts.
In therapy, I take an attachment-based approach and specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy for individuals, partners, and families. But I also know that everyone’s journey is different, so I use a mix of approaches like the Biopsychosocial model, CBT, DBT, Person-Centered Therapy, and Mindfulness. I work from an anti-oppressive framework that takes into account the social and cultural factors that shape your experience.
I believe healing happens in relationships—we’re not meant to heal on our own. Trauma can leave us feeling stuck and overwhelmed, but in a safe, secure connection, healing is possible.
In our sessions, I’ll make sure you feel truly seen and heard. I want to get to know you and the people important to you. You’re the expert in your own life, and I’m here to help you work through emotions and let go of patterns that no longer serve you. I offer a space that’s culturally responsive, racially conscious, and LGBTQ2S+ affirming.
Taking the first step toward healing is tough, but it’s important. Let’s connect, and we’ll start the journey together. Reach out today to schedule a free consultation—I look forward to hearing from you.
At my work’s core are inclusion, compassion, and respect. These values guide everything I do because I truly believe everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to be themselves without fear of judgment. My approach is rooted in creating an environment where you feel seen, heard, and valued as we work together. Here’s what that looks like:
Life’s challenges are rarely one-dimensional.
The biopsychosocial approach acknowledges that the connection between your mind, body, and social environment influences your emotional well-being. Together, we’ll explore how biological factors (like physical health or chronic pain), psychological patterns (like thoughts, emotions, and behaviors), and social dynamics (such as relationships, work stress, or cultural identity) shape your current experiences.
By understanding these interconnected elements, we can address the root causes of your struggles and create a holistic, personalized plan for healing. Whether you’re facing anxiety, burnout, or relationship challenges, this approach allows us to see the full picture of your life and work toward balance, growth, and overall well-being.
At the heart of our struggles often lies the need for connection—both with others and ourselves. Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) focuses on helping you understand and heal the emotional patterns that keep you feeling stuck. Whether you’re working on your relationship with a partner, family members, or yourself, EFT creates a safe space to identify underlying emotions, rebuild trust, and foster stronger bonds. I’ll guide you through the process of:
Building Emotional Awareness: Recognize the feelings that drive your behaviors and interactions.
Creating Emotional Safety: Establish a secure, supportive environment to explore vulnerable emotions.
Healing Past Wounds: Address unresolved hurts to foster stronger, healthier connections.
Breaking Negative Patterns: Shift from unhelpful cycles of interaction to meaningful, positive change.
Enhancing Emotion Regulation: Learn to manage and express emotions in ways that deepen connection and understanding.
Mental health is a vital part of your overall well-being, but it’s easy to feel overwhelmed when anxiety, depression, or stress take hold. Mental Health Management provides practical tools and strategies to navigate life’s demands and regain emotional balance.
Through evidence-based approaches like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and self-management techniques, we’ll focus on developing healthier coping mechanisms, improving emotional regulation, and creating routines supporting mental wellness.
Whether you’re struggling with overwhelming stress, mood changes, or persistent anxiety, I’m here to help you build resilience, gain clarity, and feel more in control of your mental health. Together, we’ll work toward a life where you can face challenges with confidence and calm.
I’m committed to creating a space where your unique identity is honored and where we can openly address how power and privilege affect your mental health and well-being. Whether you’ve faced racism, sexism, homophobia, or other forms of oppression, you’ll find that this space is about you—your voice, your experience. I understand how oppressive systems can add layers of emotional stress, and I’m here to help you unpack and heal from those burdens in a way that feels safe. You are worthy of being seen, supported, and understood just as you are, and my goal is to empower you to express your full, authentic self in every session.
I know that trauma can touch every part of your life and leave you feeling overwhelmed or disconnected from yourself. My trauma-informed approach is all about creating a space where you feel safe to process what you’ve been through, without rushing or pressure. We’ll move at your pace, honoring the path your healing journey takes. Trauma isn’t a straight line, and some days will be harder than others—but I’ll be here with you through all of it, helping you rebuild trust in yourself and others. Together, we’ll work on fostering resilience and reclaiming the parts of you that trauma may have silenced.
Our relationships—whether with family, partners, or friends—play such an important role in shaping how we feel about ourselves and the world. Through an attachment-based lens, I help you explore how your early relationships have impacted the way you connect with others now. We’ll dive into how these patterns may be affecting your current relationships, and work to create healthier, more fulfilling bonds. Whether it’s healing from a family wound, navigating conflict in romantic relationships, or just understanding yourself better, I’m here to help you strengthen the connections that matter most to you, including your relationship with yourself.
As a BIPOC, queer, female-identified therapist, and 1.5 immigrant, I bring both professional expertise and lived experience to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel understood and supported. Being fluent in Mandarin and connected to Chinese and Asian communities, I get the cultural nuances without needing you to explain every detail—I’m here to meet you where you are.
I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which is attachment-based, and I use a biopsychosocial approach alongside tools like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed care. These approaches let us look at the whole picture of what’s going on in your life—your emotions, relationships, and physical well-being.
