After a motor vehicle accident, life doesn’t always go back to normal the way people expect.
Even if your injuries seem minor, you may still be dealing with ongoing pain, tension, fatigue, or difficulty sleeping. Some people notice anxiety when driving, feeling on edge, or becoming easily overwhelmed. Others struggle with headaches, chronic pain, low mood, or a sense that their body and mind haven’t fully recovered.
At the same time, there is often pressure to return to work, take care of family responsibilities, and “move on” — even when you don’t feel ready.
You might be experiencing:
Ongoing pain or physical discomfort that affects daily life
Fear, anxiety, or avoidance around driving or being in traffic
Trouble sleeping, concentrating, or relaxing
Feeling irritable, emotionally drained, or not like yourself
Stress about work, finances, or managing the ICBC process
Feeling alone, misunderstood, or frustrated with the slow recovery
Recovery after an accident is not just physical. Your nervous system, emotions, and sense of safety may all need time and support to heal.
ICBC counselling provides a safe, supportive space where you can talk through what you’re experiencing, learn ways to manage stress and pain, and gradually rebuild confidence in your body and daily life.
If you have an active ICBC claim, you may be eligible for up to 12 counselling sessions with direct billing, so you can access support without paying out of pocket.
Sessions are available in English and Mandarin, in person in Vancouver (Fairview / West Broadway) and online across British Columbia, with evening and weekend appointments available.
You don’t have to push through this alone. Support is available when you’re ready.
If you’ve been in a motor vehicle accident, you may be eligible for ICBC counselling. Within the first 12 weeks (about 3 months) after your accident, ICBC automatically covers up to 12 counselling sessions. No doctor’s referral is needed, and direct billing is available.
Accidents often affect more than the body. You may be dealing with pain, stress, anxiety, sleep problems, fear of driving, or pressure to return to normal life before you feel ready.
ICBC counselling provides a safe space to talk about what you’re going through, manage stress and emotional reactions, and learn ways to cope with pain and recovery.
The goal is to help you feel more stable, confident, and supported as you heal.
